Sign Language Interpreting Specialists, Inc. provides high quality sign language interpreting services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in all settings: medical/mental health, legal, educational, government, employment-related, and community events.

No matter what the setting, a qualified interpreter is essential when you need interpreting services for full communication access. Finding a qualified interpreter when you need one can sometimes be a challenge. Depending on where you live and work, there may or may not be enough interpreters to meet the needs. You might have state or non-profit agencies that provide interpreting services in your area, or private companies, individual freelance interpreters in private practice, or a combination of these. In any case, knowing and advocating for your rights to a qualified interpreter when you need one are the first steps to take.

Communication access is your right, guaranteed by federal law. The Americans with Disabilities Act - the ADA – states this clearly. For some people, accessibility is accomplished with the provision of qualified interpreters for sign language, tactile, or oral interpretation.  For some people, lip-reading, note-writing, or real-time captioning is effective in some situations.  Whatever the method, the goal is full communication access.

Do you live in Georgia or are you travelling here for work, training, or another reason where you might need a qualified interpreter? Please contact SLIS for your interpreting needs, or give our contact information to the person responsible for providing communication access. SLIS can also arrange for interpreting services outside of Georgia and the southeast region with advance notice, or we can refer you to resources in your area.
